A single failed part in an imported machine can stop an entire production line. Waiting weeks for the part from the manufacturer, paying high prices and freight costs, or learning that the part is no longer produced is a familiar situation for many companies. Reverse engineering offers a lasting solution.

What is reverse engineering?

It is the process of measuring an existing part, studying its function and operating conditions, and redesigning it so that it can be manufactured. The result is not just a new part, but also its 3D model and manufacturing drawing.

How does the process work?

  1. Measurement: The part is measured with precision instruments; worn areas are evaluated separately to determine the original dimensions.
  2. Functional analysis: The loads and mating parts are studied; tolerances and surface requirements are defined.
  3. Modelling and drawing: A 3D model and a toleranced manufacturing drawing are prepared.
  4. Material selection: Material and, if necessary, heat treatment are chosen according to the operating conditions.
  5. Manufacturing and inspection: The part is produced with a suitable method and its dimensions and fit are checked.

Benefits for your business

  • Short lead time: Parts from local manufacturing in far less time than waiting for imports.
  • Cost advantage: No import, freight or exchange-rate burden.
  • Independence: Since you own the model and drawing, repeat orders are placed much faster.
  • Room for improvement: A part that fails frequently can be made more durable during redesign.

What to keep in mind

For safety-critical parts such as lifting equipment and pressure systems, reverse engineering should be carried out together with the relevant standards and, where needed, strength analysis. For patented designs, intellectual property rights must be taken into account.
